There’s nothing better during the winter than curling up by the fire with a good book. We asked our Baker Public Relations employees what books they have recently read and why others should read them in 2020. We decided to share what they said for one of this month’s blog posts. So, fire up your Kindle or head to Amazon or Barnes & Noble to pick up one of these great reads.

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
“As a mom, wife and business owner, I’m pulled in a million different directions daily. All too often, we stand in our own way of accomplishing our goals and making our dreams come true. This book hits close to home for me as it reinforces that we are accountable for our actions and must take ownership if we want to truly live our best lives.”

Fighting Back: The Inspirational Journey of American Hero Rocky Bleier by Rocky Bleier
“This is a great reallife story of Rocky Bleier, who suffered serious leg wounds as an Army man during the Vietnam War. Told by doctors that he would be lucky to walk normally again, and that his days of playing football were over, the former team captain at Notre Dame fought back and became a four-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But it took multiple surgeries and a longpainstaking rehabilitation process. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rocky on various projects over the last 15 years – including publicizing this book – and “inspirational” is absolutely the right word to describe him.”

The Five Ages of the Universe: Inside the Physics of Eternity by Fred Adams and Greg Laughlin
“A new decade arrives to remind us of time’s unrelenting advance. The Five Ages of the Universe was first published in 1999 but hasn’t lost any relevancy as a book based in scientific fact. The two decades that have passed since its publication do not even register on the scale of deep time. Reading about the vastness of our universe, one iforced to reflect on just how little time we are given, and the urgency that’s needed in order to live the fullest possible life. We inhabit a very lonely world, and its only getting lonelier as space expands beyond our reach. Let’s remember how lucky we are to have one another in this place and time.”

The Source by Barry Wygel
I may be biased, but The Source is a non-stop thriller that takes you inside local TV newsroom. When a young reporter finds himself getting too involved in a story that he is supposed to be covering, he must solve the case of a local arsonist before he himself is charged with the crime. A fun read for all ages.”

Media Strategist & Senior Account Executive, Barry Wygel

You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero
“This book pretty much says it all in the title. Jen Sincero digs into the true meaning of writing the story of your own life. You are the one who decides where you go in life and how. This book is great for anyone who is ready to take the extra step in making their life awesome. Whether you’re in a rut, or just want to indulge in a book to inspire your success, this is the one to read.”

Content Writing Specialist & Copy Editor, Leah Rostohar

Contagious: Why things Catch On by Jonah Berger
“This book talks about the formulas that make a brand successful. There are many examples given in this book of brands that will always be recognizable and why – for reasons you may not thought of! This brand also is good for educating people on how to leave a mark through their own personal branding following similar tactics. It’s a really great read.”

Account Executive, Grace D’Errico

Do You Mind If I Cancel? (Things That Still Annoy Me) by Gary Janetti
Gary runs one of the funniest Instagram accounts I know, and his book chronicles the absurdities in life that annoy us. His book is a collection of essays about his life that shows the silver lining in situations, even when they may be annoying. His poignant humor shines through and creates stories that are both heartfelt and hilarious.”
