Since 2017, Baker Public Relations has served as the public relations agency of record for SUNY Schenectady County Community College, commonly known as SUNY Schenectady. The agency’s involvement with the College has ranged widely, including driving and developing a public relations strategy in the multi-year interim between communications and marketing directors; extensive media relations work; advertising design and purchase; social media advising and development; print and digital marketing; and a raft of video projects.

Baker Public Relations was chosen to represent the College as it reached a milestone 50th anniversary in the community. Media relations efforts then and now have shined a light on the many new and timely academic programs the College has introduced, garnering placements in regional media outlets and higher education trade publications. Baker Public Relations has also found success in highlighting student aid programs, including workforce development and mentoring programs. Through these efforts, SUNY Schenectady has enjoyed a highly visible position in the Capital Region media and opened the doors to many new community partnerships.

In March 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, Baker Public Relations expanded its partnership with the College by developing a comprehensive internal and external communications strategy which included video messaging and production, script writing, media outreach, web page writing, marketing, social media development and management, advertising counsel and creation, event management and crisis communications. Baker Public Relations also negotiated advertising buys, and planned and executed a successful Virtual Business Roundtable, hosted by SUNY Schenectady and featuring more than a dozen participants from Schenectady-based companies and organizations, positioning the College at the forefront of the “getting back to work” conversation.

Our work continues today collaborating seamlessly with the college’s executive director of marketing and public relations to produce high-quality video and social media content, share the many stories of the community college through media relations and assist with marketing efforts.

“Baker Public Relations has been great to work with: responsive, committed, understanding the mission of the institution,” wrote SUNY Schenectady President Dr. Steady Moono in a testimonial marking our 15th anniversary. “We feel that there is no dissonance between the community college and Baker Public Relations. They are just part of the family. They have been integrated into the fabric of SUNY Schenectady County Community College.”
