SCHENECTADY, N.Y.  Mohawk Ambulance Service has been announced as the recipient of this year’s regional EMS Agency of the Year Award given by the Regional Emergency Medical Organization (REMO). Additionally, Edward Marchand, a member of Mohawk’s Training Center staff, was named as the recipient of this year’s Educator of Excellence award and Dr. Heidi CordiMohawk’s Medical Director, received the Physician of Excellence Award.  

Mohawk Ambulance Service has been a fixture in the Capital Region for more than 40 years, continuing to grow its workforce and coverage area which encompasses Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga counties. As the largest, privately-owned ambulance service in upstate New York, Mohawk currently employs more than 250 medical service professionals and responds to thousands of emergency calls each year.  

Mohawk Ambulance Service offers a free EMT training program as a way of recruiting new talent into the field. The fivemonth course is offered twice annually and, since 2016, has added dozens of certified emergency medical professionals to Mohawk’s ranks and the larger EMS community.

 Marchand and the staff of Mohawk’s Training Center were honored with the 2017 Educators of Excellence Award given by the Regional Emergency Medical Services Councilof the Hudson-Mohawk Valley 

Dr. Cordi is a physician with Albany Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Services Department and an experienced EMS advisor and trainerboth locally and abroad. She was the recipient of the prestigious AAPS Disaster Medicine Physician of the Year in July 2014 and is one of the co-founders of the American Board of Disaster Medicine. She served as President of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine from 2015-2017.
