In 2002, Gwendolyn J. Elliott founded Gwen’s Girls, a nonprofit organization that helps Black girls and young women within the Pittsburgh region succeed in their daily lives. Gwen’s Girls offers school- and community-based services, as well as summer programs for younger girls. The nonprofit also provides career exploration, clinical services and academic success initiatives.

Gwen’s Girls chose Baker Public Relations as its agency of record in April 2021 to strategically promote the organization and the importance of its services to the Pittsburgh community and media outlets, as well as to regional and national media. In addition to media relations, Baker Public Relations provides social media management, marketing and creative services. With the organization’s milestone 20th-anniversary celebration in 2022, Baker Public Relations also oversees event planning and management.

Baker Public Relations provided event logistics for the Black Girls Equity Alliance Virtual Awards Ceremony and Summit in 2021. The agency played a significant role in media outreach and secured local placements promoting the event. By engaging with local media, creating content for newsletters and social media platforms, the Baker Public Relations team was able to help Gwen’s Girls reach a larger audience.

Baker Public Relations continues to work with Gwen’s Girls to raise awareness of the founder’s legacy and the organization’s goals. Baker Public Relations’ media outreach efforts have garnered coverage for Gwen’s Girls in various outlets, such as PublicSource, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, New Pittsburgh Courier, Pittsburgh Urban Media and on KDKA-TV’s Pittsburgh Today Live morning show. Also, Baker Public Relations nominated Gwen’s Girls CEO, Dr. Kathi Elliott, as a Women of Influence nominee through the Pittsburgh Business Times, a recognition she proudly was honored for.
