SAND LAKE, N.Y.— Troy Sand & Gravel, a fifth-generation family supplier of aggregates, asphalt and topsoil in the northeastern United States, made the single most significant contribution to the Sand Lake Ambulance fund drive in support of emergency medical services (EMS) in central Rensselaer County.
Troy Sand & Gravel president Dan Clemente presented Sand Lake Ambulance leaders with a $10,000 check on September 25, to support the ambulance company’s new EMS rig and its recent service expansion into Poestenkill. The donation officially pushed Sand Lake Ambulance over its $50,000 fundraising goal (see photos).
“The Clemente family and Troy Sand & Gravel’s history traces back to 1915 in Rensselaer County, and nearly 70 years in the Town of Sand Lake supplying aggregate, asphalt and ready-mix concrete to the area’s construction industry,” said Dan Clemente. “For decades, our family business has grown and expanded along with the town and Rensselaer County. We have always been committed to the place we call home – the only difference is that now, we will loudly and proudly define that commitment to our employees, our neighbors and important community partners like Sand Lake Ambulance.”
The Clemente family also hosted a catered dinner for Sand Lake Ambulance paramedics and board members, celebrating the donation and marking the start of a new commitment to central Rensselaer County.
“Troy Sand & Gravel’s generous donation will strengthen our response to everyday emergencies, helping to deliver lifesaving medical service in central Renssalaer County,” said Sand Lake Ambulance Executive Director Craig McMillan. “On behalf of our entire team, and the thousands of people we serve, I’m immensely grateful for Troy Sand & Gravel’s generosity and partnership.”
Dan Clemente recently took over as Troy Sand & Gravel president. The fifth-generation company leader resides in nearby Averill Park with his wife and four children
In 2026, Troy Sand & Gravel will continue to expand its charitable commitments in Rensselaer County, as the company begins the celebration of its 70th year in business at the West Sand Lake mine.
