LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Chef Mary Payne Moran, a 20-year culinary industry veteran, needed a new outlet when the pandemic canceled her cooking classes. With food being a strong inspiration for her, Moran turned to painting to express her creativity and connect to others. She will unveil her work in an art exhibit starting on October 3, 2021, at The Chroma Studio in West Hollywood.
Moran has an extensive culinary resume, including catering for celebrity events and working in well-known Los Angeles restaurants. She is a recipe contributor for Traditional Home magazine and, most notably, a cooking instructor at The King’s Roost in Silverlake. With food still as her muse, this self-taught acrylic painter focuses on highlighting the beauty of vibrant fruits, vegetables and desserts in a representational style on various canvas sizes.
“Like most people, when things shut down during the pandemic, I had to find a way to pivot and a new direction to channel my creative energy,” said Chef Moran. “Food is my world, and I love teaching people how to utilize stunning produce to make healthy and delicious meals. With cooking classes canceled, the beauty of food was still very inspiring to me, so I turned to painting as a way to share my love of food with others. We have generations of painters in my family, so the process has always come very naturally to me.”
The exhibit will run from October 3, 2021, through January 3, 2022, at The Chroma Studio, located at 8229 Santa Monica Blvd., #101, West Hollywood. Owned by celebrity stylist Troy Zestos, the salon regularly features artists in their gallery-like setting. The exhibit will be open during salon business hours Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All the art will be for sale.
