$5,000 going towards gas costs as organization delivers food during COVID-19 pandemic
ALBANY, N.Y. – Mohawk Auto Center has presented the Veterans Miracle Center with a check to help cover gas costs for the organization’s transportation van, which transports veterans to and from appointments. Throughout the pandemic, the Veterans Miracle Center has also been using the van to deliver food and goods to veterans in need so they can stay safely at home. The organization delivers more than 25 packages each day. To help offset the cost of gas for the increase in deliveries, Mohawk Auto Center provided a $5,000 donation.
“When Mohawk Auto Center first heard about the Veterans Miracle Center utilizing its van to deliver food to veterans in need, on top of providing transportation to appointments, we had to jump in,” said Steve Haraden, president of Mohawk Auto Center. “This donation will ensure gas costs are not a problem for at least six months.”
The food and goods are packed into the van each day by a group of Vietnam War veterans, pictured, and handed off for delivery.
The organization’s van goes as far south as Poughkeepsie and as far north as Plattsburgh. To learn more about the Veterans Miracle Center and transportation services, visit www.vmcalbany.org.
