ALBANY, N.Y. – HV Gamer Con, the largest collegiate esports event in the Northeast welcomed 2,500 esports fans and players to the Albany Capital Center (ACC) on March 30-31, 2019. Nineteen colleges from across the Northeast competed for an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports Championship in Overwatch, Fortnite and League of Legends. The weekend’s events were supported through a partnership between I LOVE NY, ACC, Center for Economic Growth (CEG), ECAC, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Esports teams from Maine to Tennessee brought players to compete in HV Gamer Con. About 400 gamers participated with teams from Siena College, RPI, Alfred State, Stockton University, King University, Thomas College, Neumann University, Sacred Heart University, Mansfield University, Saint Peter’s University, Niagara University, Drew University, SUNY Canton, Stevenson University, Canisius College, Fairfield University, University at Albany, Quinnipiac University and Marist College.

RPI was named ECAC Esports Overwatch Champions after defeating SUNY Canton in the final match. Marist College beat Stockton University to win the ECAC Esports League of Legends Championship, with Stockton University taking top honors against Siena College claiming the ECAC Esports Fortnite Championship.

“We knew there was a need for an esports event of this kind and that is only more relevant after witnessing the success and excitement of HV Gamer Con,” said Doug McClaine, general manager of the Albany Capital Center. “In addition to showcasing a high-level esports competition, event goers were also able to learn about the future of esports in our panel discussions and connect with game development studios and colleges about future careers and programs. The event was entertaining but also educational.”

The ECAC launched a dedicated ECAC esports website containing news and information including schedules, standings, and player rosters where esports fans can visit all season long for team news and updates in the world of collegiate esports.

HV Gamer Con brought together the best esport athletes from colleges across the Eastern United States for a full weekend of gaming competition on March 30 and 31, 2019 at the Albany Capital Center. Gamers competed in Fortnite, League of Legends, and Overwatch. In addition to the gaming, vendors and exhibitors from the biggest names in tech were on hand for a Gaming Expo. The weekend’s events were put on by a partnership which included I LOVE NY, Albany Capital Center (ACC), Center for Economic Growth (CEG), Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
